Quilters

Book by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek; lyrics and music by Barbara Damashek
Directed by Ronald Zank
University Theatre
Oct. 11 - 14, 2012

A celebration of American women and the pioneering spirit, this musical depicts the poignant stories of the steadfastness of frontier women in the face of adversity, sewn into quilt blocks and performed on stage.

Quilters is part of an interdisciplinary view into the world of quilting presented by the College of Fine Arts and Communication, and funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts. The Dishman Art Museum will also host Quilt National's acclaimed touring exhibition, and regional and national quilt artists, as well as faculty from the Department of History, will present a variety of workshops during the run of the exhibition.

A Behanding in Spokane

Starring LU Assistant Professor of Theatre Jeffrey Wisor
Directed by Guest Artist Elizabeth Lea
Studio Theatre
Nov. 8 - 12, 2013

The second play by Martin McDonagh we have produced at LU in as many years, we continue our celebration of his work with this grisly, comic piece, McDonagh's only play set in the U.S., about a man who has spent twenty-five years searching for his missing hand. The search climaxes as he confronts a smiling motel clerk with an aversion to gunfire and two bickering lovebirds with a hand to sell.

Macbeth

By William Shakespeare

This offering in our Bard on the Bayou series is Shakespeare's shortest and bloodiest tragedy; with themes of corruption and ambition, it is a chilling exploration of what lengths humans go to to maintain power.
