Education

Mr. McManus teaches scenic and lighting design, stagecraft and serves as the production designer and technical director for the Department of Theatre and Dance. He has previously taught similar courses as an assistant professor at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina, and Coker College in Hartsville, South Carolina.

Most recently, he was the head carpenter for the first national tour of Flashdance: The Musical. Other professional credits include production manager for Casa Manana, a LORT-C regional theatre in Fort Worth; production supervisor for COST Tier-II regional North Carolina Theatre in Raleigh; head carpenter for the first national tour of the Tony-award winning The Light in the Piazza; production manager for the Raleigh-based Carolina Ballet’s 2006 tour of China; master carpenter for the 2008 season of the Tony-award winning Utah Shakespearian Festival. In his more than 15 years in the profession, he has worked with such theatre artists as Casey Hushion, Gabrial Barre, Sally Struthers, William Ivy Long, Lynn-Taylor Corbett, Paul Sorvino, Deborah Gibson, David Heuvel, Norm Lewis, Howard Jones and many others.

Mr. McManus is a proud member of Local #635 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, where he has held a Journeyman card since 2007 and been an initiated brother since 1997.
