A California native, Acosta has been working in the field of theatre and education since 1993 as an instructor, director and costume designer. She has owned and operated arts programs and worked in higher education program management. Her current costume design exhibit “Beautiful Affliction,” a collaboration between Norman Barker from Johns Hopkins and Travis Prokop, a choreographer at Lamar, is on exhibit at the Houston Health Museum. Acosta has also produced designs for professional performance and dance companies in Houston such as the Transitory Sound and Movement Collective, Karen Stokes Dance Company, 6 Degrees Dance and Becky Valls and Company. Her works have premiered at the University of Houston, The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, The Contemporary Arts Museum, The American University in Paris, France, The John P. McGovern Museum of Health and Medical Science, The Rothko Chapel, Houston Big Range Dance Festival, Diverse Works, Lamar University, The University of Granada and The Barn. She is currently collaborating on a project with the SciTech team in the Maker’s Space at Lamar University for the new Science and Technology building entitled “Beautiful Instruments” which focuses on the de-fabrication of medical instruments into fiber art and dress.
