Facilities

Lamar University has a variety of dedicated performance spaces: the 500-seat University Theatre; the flexible, black box Studio Theatre that seats approximately 100; as well as two dance studios. Instruction is supported by an acting lab with a marley floor, a drafting and computer lab equipped with both Macs and PCs, and scenic and costume shops as well as a box office.

The University Theatre

University Theatre

A 500-seat proscenium theatre used for large musical and other theatrical productions, dance concerts, University-wide speaking engagements, fundraisers, and music events. It includes a spacious lobby, two dressing rooms, the costume shop and storage, scenic shop, paint shop and loading dock. The space is equipped with a state-of-the art sound system.

The Studio Theatre

A flexible seating space commonly called the Black Box. The open space of approximately 60 feet x 60 feet is able to be configured into proscenium, arena, thrust and other arrangements. An intimate space for performances, this theatre houses primarily theatrical productions, including student-directed works.

The Dance Annex

This large, newly renovated open space is configured primarily proscenium, with a state-of-the-art marley floor and sound system. Classes, workshops, master classes, and smaller dance recitals and concerts are held and performed here.

The Scene Shop

Scene Shop

Students receive a hands-on education in scenic and prop construction in this fully functioning wood shop.
