Young Soloist Competition

Spring 2015

Soloist

The Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music is proud to host the Young Soloist Competition at Lamar University.

The competition is open to all 11th and 12th grade high school students and will take place in the Rothwell Recital Hall.

There are two categories in which students may audition, vocal and instrumental (includes wind instruments, piano, strings, and percussion). Each category will have up to three scholarship prizes to attend Lamar University:

  • First Prize: $1,000 Scholarship
  • Second Prize: $750 Scholarship
  • Third Prize: $500 Scholarship

The competition scholarship amount is in addition to any other music scholarship that the student may be awarded as a result of a formal audition for the Department of Music.

There is no application fee to enter the competition. Compositions requiring piano accompaniment must be performed with a pianist at the audition. Applicants are highly encouraged to bring their own accompanist. If this is not possible, Lamar can provide an accompanist for a fee (see the Young Soloist Competition Rules and Regulations). Accompanists are available on a limited basis.

Interested applicants should carefully read the Young Soloist Competition Rules and Regulations, as well as the Application Form for more details. Please direct any questions to Dr. Brian Shook.
