Dr. Paul (as he is called by his students), has taught some 200 sections of courses that focus on improving communication, interviewing, public speaking, and public relations, and presents yearly at the annual international conference of the Broadcast Education Association. As "the PR guy" in the Department of Communication, he has developed a new Public Relations Society of America-inspired program in public relations which is part of the corporate communication track, and created the student public relations organization, Cardinal Image Architects for all university students interested in PR - not just communication majors. Two books based on our misperceptions of communication are currently in the works.

As a student of the media, Dr. Paul has been actively and professionally involved in every mass medium. He has published some 200 newspaper articles, edited a scholarly journal, worked both on-air and behind the scenes in radio and television, and performed live on-stage (both as a professional guitarist/vocalist and as a thespian). He is a member of the Screen Actors Guild/American Federation of TV/Radio Artists (SAGAFTRA - the national, professional union for actors in the media), has performed in feature films (among them The Day Lincoln Was Shot, Minority Report, Head of State, Ladder 49 and Syriana), shot dozens of commercials (including spots for McDonald’s and Cadillac), and provided numerous narrations for films and videos.

Dr. Paul is also the founder and managing director of ptmhenterprises, a private communication, marketing and PR consulting concern now headquartered here in Beaumont. Clients have included ENGlobal Engineering, HealthQuest (a health-focused, monthly Maryland newspaper), Maryland Business for Responsive Government, the Flexible Packaging Association, and (while working for a Washington beltway consulting firm) NASA, Caterpillar, Habitat for Humanity, and Southern Company, among others.
