Journalism Education

The Journalism Education certification in the Department of Communication prepares undergraduate students for a career in grades 8-12 teaching.

Students in this educator preparation concentration balance a full curriculum and training in communication and journalism while learning about outcomes general education, pedagogical content knowledge, content proficiency, pedagogical strategies, communication skills, values, and analytical abilities. These students also develop dispositions and habits of mind needed for "self-learning" and "life-long learning" that will equip them to encounter problems and change with confidence.

For degree and certification advisement purposes, students should report to their major department and to the academic advisor for secondary certification in the Office of Professional Services, Room 201 in the Education Building. Twelve hours in the teaching discipline must be advanced (3000-4000 level).
