Auditions

Admission into the Lamar University Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and Cardinal Jazz Orchestra is determined via a relaxed audition process administered at the beginning of the fall semester. All students who have experience performing in a wind ensemble, symphonic band or jazz band in high school/college, regardless of major, are encouraged to schedule an audition.

It is common for new students to be nervous about their first audition. However, Lamar University has a long tradition of serving performers from all musical backgrounds. There are members of the Lamar University band program with a wide range of ability and experience levels, including many that never performed an audition until their first semester as a university student. The faculty at Lamar strive to accommodate all students and will work hard to make sure that you feel comfortable and relaxed during your audition.

Detailed information regarding the audition process is outlined below.   However, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. McMahan if you have any additional questions.
